A
well written signature file is
brief. It lets people know, at a glance, who you are
- where you are - how to contact you and what you
sell.
Nothing is
more irritating than a Sig file with all sorts of
oddball creativity going on. It takes too long to
figure out what is being said, and people won't
bother to take the time to decipher it.
Using
Signature Files for Promotion
Signature
files are like electronic business cards that are
automatically attached to each message you send via
email.
Using a Sig file in conjunction with actively
participating in newsgroups, mailing lists and
discussion boards that pertain to your
services/products is highly recommended and can be a
very profitable endeavor. This method of advertising
(Sig files) is not only unobtrusive, but also well
accepted by everyone on the net, provided that your
Sig file isn't too long. It's best to keep your
"Sig files" to no more than 6 lines.
The
Top 7 Things to Include in Your "Sig File"
There are a few basic "musts" if you plan
on using your Sig file for advertising. If you want
them to work like a magnet, make sure you include:
-
Your
name
-
Your
email address
-
The
name of your company
-
Your
web address (URL) : important : add the
"http://" prefix
-
A
short, concise description of your products or
services
-
An
auto-responder address (if appropriate)
Other suggestions:
- A 1-800 number: List yours if you have one. If
your business extends outside the United States
- remember that many, 800 numbers are not
accessible from some other countries.
- A free offer: If you can offer something free,
do so. People like free things, and they are
powerful "pullers" in obtaining
potential customers.
.
How
about fancy borders?
You
see them out there and they are used frequently, but
they tend to clutter the issues and information.
It's recommended you use simple borders and keep
them unobtrusive.
