“Weekend Warrior Remedies”

Recently, I had to put my knowledge of essential oils to work on an injury I received while playing in a softball tournament. I tore my right quadriceps muscle and if you have done this you know the pain it can cause as the days progress. Not being someone who believes in pain relievers or prescription drugs I ran to my book of oils and started to get to work. I found several essential oils that helped relieve the pain and reduce the inflammation. Here are a few remedies you might want to try the next time you injure your self being a weekend warrior.

It is always smart to start with a cold compress when you first tear a muscle. HEAT is no recommended it may tighten the muscle.

Get a large bowl and fill it with ice and water. Find a towel the size of a standard hand towel and add it to the mixture. Then go an get your oils:

4 Drops of Rosemary
4 Drops of Sweet Bay
4 Drops of Eucalyptus
3 Drops of Lavender

Add these to the bowl and let it stand for about 15 minutes. Once your ready remove the towel get rid of the excess water and place it on the sore muscle area. REPEAT 5 times

Another great way to relieve muscle soreness is a cool bath. NOT HOT.

Fill the with cool water and add the following essential oils:

4 Drops of Cypress
4 Drops of Cedarwood
2 Drops of Marjoram
3 Drops of Lavender

Lastly, you might want to ask your significant other for some help in doing this.

Make your own massage oil (you can use any oil you might have in your cupboard i.e.: olive oil, canola oil etc.

2 TBL spoons of carrier oil
5 Drops of Chamomile
5 Drops of Peppermint
Drops of Cypress

Mix well and then proceed to massage the sore area. Try to repeat at least 4 times a day.

It is always a better idea to see what nature has to offer before we grab prescription drugs or pain relievers. It is also important to know that if
the pain consist contact your physician you may have done more damage then you thought.
